Algiers, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) The US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba is a war imposed since January 1, 1959, assured on Thursday the ambassador to Algeria, Armando Vergara.

The measure of force arose long before February 7, 1962, with the entry into force of an Executive Order of the Kennedy government because since the birth of the Cuban Revolution such hostile police was imposed, the diplomat pointed out.

It is the longest blockade in history known against an entire people, described by Cuban authorities as a genocidal act, and has been condemned on numerous occasions by the international community, including within the UN, he noted in an interview with Radio Algeria International.

Vergara commented that during the Trump administration (2017-2021) that policy was intensified as ever before with over 200 punitive actions against Cuba and all amid the Covid-19 pandemic, which demands from the world cooperation and solidarity.

The Trump administration, just hours before the end of its four-year term, included Cuba in the State Department's spurious list of countries sponsoring terrorism, something implausible, he stressed.

'That dishonest and opportunistic action was condemned by numerous countries in the world and rejected by millions of peace-loving friends,' he concluded.
