Brussels, Mar 28 (Prensa Latina) Belgian MEP Marc Botenga demanded today the immediate end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade applied by the United States against Cuba, a policy he considered a violation of human rights.

It must cease so that the Cuban people can follow its destiny and develop the system it has chosen, said the member of the Labor Party of Belgium and member of the group of The Left in the European Parliament in an interview with Prensa Latina in this capital.

Botenga described as absolutely terrible the economic and social consequences of the siege imposed on the island by Washington for more than six decades and regretted that President Joe Biden did not comply with his electoral promise to reverse the policy of his predecessor in the White House, Donald Trump, or at least attenuate it.

Trump ordered more than 240 measures to tighten the blockade and its extraterritorial scope, in order to suffocate the island and promote change of regime.

Regarding the scope of U.S. aggressiveness beyond its borders, the MEP rejected the impact on companies of the so-called old continent, persecuted and pressured for trading with Cuba.
