Belizean Prime Minister to begin official visit to Cuba today

Havana, April 27 (RHC)-- The Prime Minister of Belize, John Antonio Briceño, will begin an official visit to Cuba this Wednesday to meet with authorities and deepen the bonds of brotherhood between the two peoples.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his stay until Saturday, the also Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investments will have information on biotechnology facilities and their scientific results.

Havana and Belmopan established diplomatic ties on July 15, 1995, and maintained cooperation in health and human resources training.

Since 1990, more than 1,000 Cuban collaborators have served in that nation, and 122 health and sports professionals currently work there.

The countries also carried out projects in culture, environmental preservation, sugar industry, fishing, construction, and tourism.

According to the Foreign Ministry, 54 scholarship holders from Belize are currently studying in Cuba.

On several occasions, the Central American country ratified its position of rejecting the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba and requested its lifting.
