The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel will visit Belize this Sunday to strengthen bilateral ties.

Through its website, the host government informed that the program includes the participation of the head of state in a special session of the National Assembly, the dialogue with Prime Minister John Briceño, as well as the signing of two agreements.

The visit is the first by a Cuban president to this Central American country, with which Cuba has maintained cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations on July 15, 1995.

Briceño held official talks with Díaz-Canel at the end of April 2022 in Havana, where both parties expressed satisfaction with the good state of ties and ratified the mutual interest in expanding the areas of exchange.

The Prime Minister highlighted the work of the Cuban Medical Brigade 'Henry Reeve', which arrived in Belize in January last year, as part of the bilateral cooperation in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also acknowledged the contribution of the largest Antillean island in the professional training of young people from that nation, as Caribbean Community members.

For his part, Díaz-Canel thanked Belize for its support for the Resolution against the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade, presented every year since 1992 at the United Nations.

The Cuban dignitary received the day before in the state of Campeche, the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle, in the degree of Collar, which highlighted the high friendship existing between Mexico and Cuba, the homelands of Benito Juarez and Jose Marti, respectively.
