Belarus and Cuba managed to find a way to conclude contracts to supply Belarusian products, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said following the official visit of Belarus’ delegation to Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, BelTA has learned.

There are no problems in political relations between Belarus and Cuba, but “Cuba is facing a difficult situation: the tightening of the blockade by the USA has resulted in a steep drop in budget revenues,” he explained.

“Therefore, Cuba needs absolutely everything: food, equipment, etc, but it struggles to find financing. Nevertheless, we have found a way to conclude a contract to supply Belarusian products to Cuba,” noted Roman Golovchenko. It was agreed that a mixed payment scheme will be used: some of Belarusian goods will be paid for using money, others using a barter mechanism.

“Thus, we signed contracts worth millions of dollars, which is also quite a good result,” the prime minister added. “I believe that the trip to Cuba was also productive. We did not only conclude contracts, but we also laid a solid groundwork to make them implementable in the future.”

The official visit of the prime minister of Belarus to Latin American countries ended on 20 July. Roman Golovchenko toured Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, where cooperation agreements were reached. In particular, Belarus and Venezuela thrashed out plans to restart joint projects in industry and other areas. Agreements on the supply of tractors and milk powder, and cooperation agreements in the pharmaceutical field were inked with Cuba. Contracts for the supply of more than 700 units of equipment worth a total of $85 million were signed in Nicaragua.
