Buenos Aires, Aug 26 (Prensa Latina) Members of political parties, unions, and social organizations from different regions of Argentina on Friday continue to mobilize to support Vice President Cristina Fernández in the face of the political, media, and judicial persecution against her.
During the last accusatory hearing of the so-called “Causa Vialidad,” prosecutor Diego Luciani requested a 12-year prison sentence for Fernandez, who is also the president of the Senate, and her perpetual disqualification for holding public office for alleged irregularities in the awarding of 51 works in Santa Cruz province from 2003 to 2015.
In a televised appearance, the former president demonstrated the illicit ties among businessmen, officials, judges, prosecutors, and former President Mauricio Macri; and denounced the non-existence of evidence against her, as well as the violations committed in the trial.
Since Luciani’s statements were announced, people from this and other localities continue to arrive at Fernandez’s home in the capital’s Recoleta neighborhood to show their support and to accompany her.
Demonstrations are also being held in cities such as Córdoba, La Plata, Corrientes, and Rosario to denounce the attempts to proscribe the former head of State.
On Thursday, the Justicialist Party convened “all Peronists across our country, in all basic units and headquarters, to remain united, organized and mobilized, on permanent alert, to defend true democracy and the conquered rights.”
