The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) condemned the decision of the United States to seize the official plane of the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
The group issued a statement denouncing that the action adds to the long list of attacks by the US administrations to exert pressure, twisting the democratic will of the Venezuelan people and creating the conditions to force a change of government.
“The member countries of ALBA-TCP strongly condemn any imposition that seeks to strip the sister countries of Latin America and the Caribbean of their assets and repudiates, once again, this act of piracy to the detriment of the Venezuelan State, in total contravention of International laws,”. The group also recalled that Washington previously acted in a similar manner back in 2021 by appropriating an aircraft of the Aerocargo del Sur Transport Company, a subsidiary of the Venezuelan airline CONVIASA.
ALBA-TCP also deplored the violation of the sovereignty of the Dominican Republic – where the seizure of the aircraft occurred – and supported the “legal, diplomatic and political actions” that Caracas undertakes to defend its sovereignty and self-determination.
