ALBA Supports Cuba in Sovereign Defense
especiales

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) expressed its support for the people and Government of Cuba, led by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, in the defense of its sovereignty and national independence.
The regional bloc affirmed, in a statement published on its website, that the United Nations Charter constitutes the essential foundation for peaceful coexistence among States, as it enshrines principles such as sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, and the prohibition of the use of force against territorial integrity.
The organization recognized the trajectory of Cuba's foreign policy, based on independence and commitment to multilateralism, and highlighted its vocation for international cooperation and solidarity with Global South countries.
ALBA called on the international community and multilateral organizations to maintain support for Cuba, in line with United Nations General Assembly resolutions demanding the lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed against the Island.
The statement underscored that cooperation and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean require responsible actions by States and international organizations, in favor of peace and collective well-being.
The communiqué is part of a continuity of regional pronouncements calling for an end to unilateral coercive measures against Cuba.
Due to its importance, the ACN reproduces the regional institution's communiqué in its entirety:
COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE BOLIVARIAN ALLIANCE FOR THE PEOPLES OF OUR AMERICA (ALBA)
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) expresses its firmest support and solidarity with the people and Government of the sister Republic of Cuba, its President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, in the just defense of its sovereignty and independence, based on the legitimate exercise of the right to self-determination and to establish relations of friendship and cooperation with all governments and peoples of the world, within a framework of mutual respect, sovereign equality, and adherence to International Law.
ALBA reaffirms that the United Nations Charter constitutes the essential foundation for peaceful coexistence among States, as it enshrines universal principles such as the sovereign equality of States, non-interference in internal affairs, the prohibition of the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity and political independence of any State, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and the inalienable right of every people to decide their own political, economic, and social project.
The Alliance recognizes and values the historical trajectory of Cuban foreign policy, built upon a doctrine of independence, national dignity, and a profound commitment to multilateralism. Throughout its history, Cuba has demonstrated a permanent vocation for international cooperation, solidarity among peoples, and respect for the norms of International Law, contributing in a sustained manner to understanding, peace, and collective well-being, especially in favor of Global South countries.
ALBA calls on the international community and multilateral organizations to maintain their determined and supportive backing for the Republic of Cuba, in line with the resolutions repeatedly and overwhelmingly adopted by the United Nations General Assembly demanding the lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed against that country, and to contribute responsibly to peace, stability, and cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
