The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, today. The two officials discussed a "mutual interest in boosting multilateral cooperation."

During the meeting, both parties highlighted the "historical and enduring ties between Africa and the Caribbean nation, rooted in shared values and solidarity," as reported by the African Union (AU) on its official X social media account.

According to the source, Chairperson Mahamat "praised the steadfast support of Cubans to the African continent, particularly in the fields of health and education." In turn, Foreign Minister Rodríguez "applauded the AU's leadership and its firm voice on the global stage."

The Minister specifically referred to the "advancement of regional integration, infrastructure development, and peace and stability throughout Africa."

Both dignitaries reaffirmed their "commitment to strengthening relations between the AU and Cuba, and to promoting multilateral cooperation," including through the African Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Rodríguez is currently on a tour of several African nations, which has already included visits to Togo and Benin.

In the former, he held talks with the President of the Council of Ministers, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, to whom he expressed "the Caribbean nation's willingness to impart greater dynamism to bilateral relations and strengthen cooperative ties in various sectors."

In Benin, the Minister met with his counterpart, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, to discuss "continuing to strengthen the relations of friendship and solidarity," in addition to carrying out other activities.
