Matanzas, Cuba, May 29 (Prensa Latina) The struggle in favor of empowerment and gender equality is an issue in which the Cuban province of Matanzas is making progress in accordance with the National Program for the Advancement of Women.

According to the website, in Matanzas, the follow-up of this plan involves all sectors of society in the need to promote education with a gender focus in families and communities.

The coordinator of Programs and Objectives of the Government in the territory, Lourdes Sarmiento commented it is necessary to make more visible from the local media the actions that are undertaken in the confrontation of gender violence and forms of discrimination, despite the work carried out against it in the province there are still lags of these expressions.

In the province, work is being carried out to promote the economic empowerment of women in aspects such as education and guidance on sexual and reproductive health, in addition to the expansion of nurseries, he said.

Diaz said that the road traveled so far in terms of equality for women evidences the need for the Program to apply the policy for the benefit of Cuban society.

Two years after its implementation in Cuba, the National Program for the Advancement of Women is concentrating efforts throughout the country to achieve equal rights and opportunities for women and erase the macho traits that still persist in society.
