In a press conference at the seat of Danza Teatro Retazos theatre company, Bustos thanked all those who have made possible this long cherished dream, and very especially, the person who supported her from the beginning and who believed that it was possible to realize the idea to fuse dance and urban landscape: the Havana City Historian, Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler.
The meeting will maintain its usual dynamics of master classes, conferences and workshops in the mornings, while the evening hours will be dedicated to presentations at the Mexico, Oswaldo Guayasamín and Africa Museums.
Dancers from some 20 countries including Cuba will appear in the most diverse spaces of the oldest context of the Cuban capital city. Countries participating are Germany, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, United States, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Italy, Japan, Norway and Spain, while Cuba will be represented by companies from Havana, Camagüey, Granma, Guantánamo, Matanzas, Pinar del Río and Villa Clara provinces.
Danza callejera—as this festival is popularly known—covers a wide range of trends and artistic expressions like exhibits, concerts, video-art and performances, that make possible the inclusion of new talents, besides being a different moment in the country annual dance context approaching the spectator to a combination of art expressions inspired in the history, the architecture and the design of one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of the world.
The Festival is organized by the City Historian Office and supported by the Center of Theatre and since 1999 is included in the International Circuit of Cities that Dance, network formed by cities from Europe and America.
Parallel will be celebrated the Video dance International Festival “DV Danza. Movimiento y ciudad”, to prove that there is no divorce between the diverse artistic expressions. This way, video and dance will join in new realizations so as a young and strong trend as video dance is, highlights with its presence the existence of challenges however talent imposes.
The meeting will take place at Centro de la Danza, the Visual Arts Development Center, Fábrica de Arte Cubano, the Alejo Carpentier and Lecuona rooms of the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, the Cinematógrafo Lumière, the Sala de la Diversidad and the Plaza Vieja.
