Cuba University Students protest against US Subversive Actions

Students from the University of Havana (UH) protested against the US scholarship program World Learning, which is meant to cultivate opinion makers who may work for them in Cuba.
In his statement, Raul Palmero — president of the Federation of University Students (FEU) — recalled that these scholarships have the support of the USAID, agency involved in destabilization campaigns in Cuba.
The student leader warned that UH authorities are not opposed to educational exchange, or that Cuban students cannot study abroad, but he noted that these initiatives are meant to create a mindset contrary to the Revolution; and therefore, fostering domestic changes in the social system of Cuba.
On the other hand, the journalist and essayist Enrique Ubieta detailed that such programs’ goals are not to destroy Cuban government, but to destroy the social system as a whole.
Since August 2015, World Learning attracts young people in Cuba between 16-18 years old for a summer course. It is a two-month course where students visit some schools and a variety of community organizations. They also elaborate a final project with a variety of actions intended to be carried out when they return.
Last July, amid the process of recruitment, three Panamanian citizens and one from Spain traveled to Havana with tourist visa. These people were hired by a US executive of the World Learning.
