At 11:35 hrs, Sept. 7, landed in Holguin a B-737 from Miami, Florida, with 92 passengers. However, none of them came with the tourist category due to the restrictions imposed by the US government.

Nancy Gonzalez, a Cuban-American living in the Southern state, explained to CAN that it was a wonderful first step to foster more future flights as well as opportunities to American people to travel to Cuba as tourists someday.

This is part of the resumption of commercial flights between Cuba and the US after half century. JetBlue airlines was the first flight lading in Cuba —Santa Clara— from Fort Lauderdale last August 31.

Carlos Perez Alfonso, general director in the Eastern Zone of ECASA (Cuban Airport and Aeronautical Service Company, CoLtd) noted that two American Airlines flights are to be scheduled to Holguin.

Four commercial flights — American Airlines, JetBlue, Silver Airways— will arrive daily at the Frank Pais airport from US.

It means 28 flights weekly with an average of 3,600 passengers.

Mr. Perez Alfonso stated that Holguin’s international airport will welcome 83 new flights weekly starting in November, and it means 14,000 passengers.
