The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and the founder of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), Tomas Borge, have been honored here during an emotional cultural event that highlighted the historical significance of both personalities.
Yesterday, as part of the celebrations on August 13th of the 90th and 86th birthdays, respectively, of the two leaders, the emblematic Salon de los Cristales at the Ruben Dario National Theater in Managua hosted a concert and a photo exhibition entitled 'Hombres de Nuestro Tiempo.'
Before a large audience, the president of the Sandinista parliamentary group, Edwin Castro, stated that it is not a coincidence that Fidel and Tomas were born the same day.
'The relationship of both revolutions such as that of (Jose) Marti and (Augusto C.) Sandino is a causality at the most. One was born at the time when the other entered into immortality and Tomas was born the same day that Fidel was born, two men beyond our age,' he said.
For Edwin Castro, Fidel is a man who transcends America and spans the 20th and 21st centuries. Tomas captures him, the restless Tomas who devoted his life to the revolutionary cause and had Fidel as an example.
'That is what we come today to celebrate in these times when the world calls for peace and solidarity; that is why we come today to say always Fidel and Tomas,' he added.
