In statements to Cuban and foreign press during a joint press conference at the Palace of the Revolution, President Obama said that his country acknowledges Cuba's achievements as a country. The visiting U.S. head of state said he fully recognizes Cuba as a sovereign country.
Regarding his nearly two-hour closed-door meeting with President Raúl Castro, Obama said they held a frank, open dialogue on several issues, including the differences between the two governments, as well as the fields where the two countries can work together.
