Health minister Ariana Campero highlighted today the great contribution of Cuban doctors to the Bolivian health system, mainly in the attention to poor people in remote, difficult to access places. They are working in remote places, in Guarani communities in El Chaco, in the altiplano and in Aymara communities, said Campero in remarks to Prensa Latina on occasion of the tenth anniversary of the arrival of the Cuban Medical Brigade to this South American nation.

During these ten years of presence in this country, the Cuban health personnel managed to save 86,983 lives and restored the vision to over 672,700 poor people.

She noted that the Cuban docs work in the program Mi Salud (My health), aimed at offering free health care house by house, healing the sick and developing prevention and awareness-raising actions.

In this regard, she referred to caring for pregnant women and children and the presence of specialists in intensive care, surgeons and anesthesiologists that help hospitals in remote places to function.

More than 700 Cuban health workers are offering services now in 114 cmmunity centers, 30 hospitals and six ophtalmology facilities in several regions.
