Cuba Insists on Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons
especiales
Cuba reaffirmed that the only way to safeguard the human species and avoid that nuclear weapons can be used again was their total elimination and prohibition. Anayansi Rodriguez, Cuban ambassador to international authorities headquartered in Geneva, recalled during an exchange about the issue, the holding of a historic top-level meeting of the UN General Assembly about nuclear disarmament in 2013.
She highlighted the importance of holding successfully the next International Top-Level Conference of that authority, in which they will deal, in depth, with this subject, to be held in 2018 at the latest.
The exchange took place after showing the documentary film "The Story of the Man that Saved the World," by Danish filmmaker Peter Anthony.
The audiovisual material tells the story of former Soviet Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov, who avoided a nuclear catastrophe in 1983.
The documentary was shown in the context of the activities to commemorate the International Day of the United Nations on Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, on September 26.
