Cuba to celebrate the International Day of Indigenous Peoples

An entertainment program develops Cuba on the occasion of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, held each August 9th worldwide.

Agenda después de 2015: Garantizar la salud y el bienestar de los pueblos indígenas, Agenda after 2015: Protecting the health and welfare of indigenous peoples, is the theme of the celebrations, which this year will focus on access to health services, announced the Cuban United Nations Association (UNCA).

The activities by the date will take place at the headquarters of the UNCA on August 10, coinciding with the celebrations for the seven decades of the United Nations (UN).

The event will be broadcast live through webtv.un.org and also the second volume of the report entitled "The situation of Indigenous Peoples", La situacion de los Pueblos Indigenas,  will be presented.

Besides, It stands out further intervention Jaime Gomez Triana, director of the Program of Studies on cultures in America, the Casa de las Americas, regarding the publication of Forest Life. An audiovisual on Prayer for Mother Earth, by Francisco Ramirez Rojas, known as the Mountain Cacique of indigenous community of La Rancheria in Caridad de los Indios in Guantanamo, and the presentation of the Cuban group on the Web directed by Osmel Francis and San Felipeno Art Group, in the province of Mayabeque, there  are other proposals.

Simultaneously selling the book American Indian in Cuba will be held. Open to this, a group of authors, studies and operations will be participants.

The International Day of Indigenous People was established by the General Assembly of the UN, December 23, 1994 in order to strengthen international cooperation for solving the problems that indigenous communities face in areas such as human rights, environment, development, education and health.
