Dinesh Gunawardena, a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna Party, described the recent visit to Cuba by Prince Charles of Wales and his wife Camila as historic.
During a debate at the Sri Lankan Parliament about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gunawardena, who is also the president of the Cuba-Sri Lanka Friendship Association, stressed that the British royal family's visit to Cuba took place at a time when some western countries are still trying to impose new economic sanctions on the Caribbean nation.
Gunawardena emphasized that in all parliamentary debates about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participants clearly stress the importance that Sri Lanka's foreign policy conveys its strong support and stance of solidarity with Cuba in favor of its victory against the long-standing US economic blockade.
On November 1, Sri Lanka voted in favor of the Cuban resolution at the United Nations General Assembly, which demanded an end to the genocidal economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the US Government on Cuba for more than 50 years.
