Cuba to Launch Radio and TV Convention 2014

The first Radio and Television Convention in Cuba will be held at the International Conference Center in Havana from October 19 to 24.

Omar Olazabal, president of the organizing committee, said at a press conference this week that the country will host the TV and radio festival, a youth programming seminar, and a meeting of the the Network of Media in Defense of Humanity.

Olazabal said the goal of the convention is to exchange ideas, cooperation and to trade technology, products and services. The event’s scientific program is focused on how high-demand media can shape values and defend the island nation. To this end, the his analysis seeks to deepen an understanding of the massive character of soap opera consumption.

The conference will also include both theoretical and practical seminars, ranging from workshops, classes and other activities, including the Creative Youth Workshop in Radio and Television.

Joel Ortega, a member of the organizing committee, indicated that more than 27 countries are scheduled to attend. Indian Television announced that a large number of Indian officials are expected to attend the convention in Cuba. Over 350 Cuban delegates from both areas of expertise will attend, along with 250 foreign nationals who will in a large part each have a booth at the International Expo. Guests will also include social communication ministers, the president of Russia Today, and Tristan Bauher, Director of Radio and Television in Argentina.

Olazabal said that above all, “The event will be dedicated to young people in the field, as evidence of all our desire that they will be able to contribute what is missing from our TV screens and radios: the freshness of this contemporary media discourse, reinforced by the experience of media veterans.”
