Mexican Graduates of ELAM Thank Cuba Medical Training

Young Mexicans newly graduated from the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) thanked the Cuban govenrment the training received in that institution and promised to work for those needy in their country, it was learned today.

During a press conference offered in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora state, they praised Cuba’s solidarity in the training of doctors from other countries, where the costs of that major are inaccessible for most of young people.

Thania Ruiz, Michelle Gamez, Ana Laura Silva, Emigdio Lopez and Luis Eduardo Rubio a few days ago received their degrees of doctors in medicine in Havana, after six years of study at ELAM and internships in health centers of the island.

“Thanks to the General Workers, Peasants and Popular Union (Ugoc) and the Cuban Revolution, today we can proudly say that we are doctors,” said Dr. Thania Ruiz.

In Cuba, more than 38 thousand 920 health professionals from 121 countries of Latin America, Africa and Asia have graduated, particularly at ELAM, founded in 1999.

The newly Mexican physicians said that they will work in the most needy communities, particularly in Valle del Yaqui, where respiratory diseases spread by the burning of wheat straw.
