Pope Francis has received a letter on the case of the three Cuban antiterrorists still incarcerated in the United States, informed on Friday a communique by the International Committee for the Freedom of The Five.

In an audience with the Supreme Pontiff, Father Antonio Tarzia, of the Cassiodoro Association, and Professor Luciano Vasapollo, a professor with La Sapienza University, the two of them members of the International Committee for the Freedom of The Five, handed over the letter requesting the return to their country of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, the Cubadebate Web site reported.

Hernandez, Labañino and Guerrero were arrested on September 12, 1998, in Miami, along with Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, who are now in Cuba after serving their sentences.

The text reiterates that the initiative seeks to sensitize the Pontiff and the Vatican to the story of these men who went to the United States to warn about terrorist acts against the Cuban people, planned with total impunity by violent individuals and groups from south Florida.

The world campaign in solidarity with Gerardo, Ramon and Antonio and against terrorism, which has found echo in over 40 countries, will continue until October 6.
