Seven nationals off to study in Cuba

Seven more students from St. Kitts and Nevis have left for Cuba to pursue tertiary-level education.

The Government of the Republic of Cuba granted seven (7) scholarships to nationals in the areas of medical science, electrical and mechanical Engineering.

The students departed the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on Sunday on their new educational journey.

Those aspiring engineers will be hosted in Santiago de Cuba and the medical students will be accommodated at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana.

“The recipients of this year’s scholarships bear fruit of the longstanding and excellent relations that exist between the Governments of the Republic of Cuba and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis,” a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement said.

Mr. Kha-lis Farrell ​of Church Ground, Nevis​ – Medical Science; Mr. Andres Simmonds of Basseterre, St. Kitts​ – Medical Science; Ms. Crystal Parris-Caines of Charlestown, Nevis – Medical Science; Mr. Andrew Liburd of Brazier’s Estate, Nevis​ – Medical Science; Ms. Rhenez Thompson of Sandy Point, St. Kitts​ – Medical Science; Mr. Dexter Bowrin of Frigate Bay, St. Kitts​ – Mechanical Engineering and Mr. Oquan Baptiste​ of Cayon, St. Kitts​ – Electrical Engineering.
