One of the Cuban Five, Fernando Gonzalez, thanked the support they received from Spain to their cause, after arriving in the capital to attend a party organized each year by the Communist Party, diplomatic sources reported.

Gonzalez, who is also vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, urged the Spaniards to continue demanding the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero and Ramón Labañino, who are in prison since 1998 for preventing teroor acts against Cuba.

Fernando and René González were also imprisoned and returned to Cuba after fully serving their sentences imposed at trial that a panel of UN jurists considered it arbitrary.

As part of his visit to Spain, Fernando Gonzalez will meet with the Federation of Cuban Residents in Spain, representatives of associations of solidarity with Cuba, and will participate in a concert organized by the State Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five.

More than 300 Spanish politicians recently signed a letter asking the American president, Barack Obama, the release of three Cubans who have remained in prison for 16 years.
