New international event for the Cuban Five
especiales
A new international event in support of the Cuban Five will begin September 4 through October 6, with a vigil held outside the White House on September 12, marking 16 years since Heroes of the Republic of Cuba, Fernando González, René González, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino and Gerardo Hernández were unjustly imprisoned in the U.S.
Antonio, Ramón and Gerardo still remain incarcerated despite the global call to U.S. President Barack Obama for their release.
Another key action taking place will be the Fifth International Colloquium held in Havana, September 11-12. In addition to the various activities planned, the Solidarity Movement with Cuba will take place in more than 30 countries, and include “pickets” in front of U.S. embassies, sending messages to the U.S. President, issuing statements and a diverse range of actions and initiatives to draw special attention to the campaign for Antonio, Ramón y Gerardo’s release.
The Cuban Five are fighters against terrorism, who risked their lives in U.S. territory to prevent death, attacks and violent actions – originating from Florida with the complicity and consent of U.S. authorities – against their country and their people.
The international event will begin September 4, on the anniversary of the death of young Italian Fabio Di Celmo, in a Havana hotel in 1997, victim of terrorism against Cuba. The event will end October 6, on the anniversary of the bombing of a Cubana de Aviación plane – mid-flight – in 1976, a terrorist attack which caused the death of 73 people.
