Lies, Another Enemy of Cuba

In the complex scenario that Cuba is experiencing these days, marked by various daily shortages, lies have played a fundamental role. On this foundation, they have built The most perverse aggressions are being waged, and the morale and resistance are being attacked, not only of the Cuban people, but of all those around the world who support the Caribbean nation at this time.
One of the most recent campaigns is the one being carried out to establish the narrative that the Cuban government is profiting from the donations made by the Mexican people and government in a gesture of boundless love.
This smear campaign is not limited to social media or so-called “independent” media outlets that are actually financed by the historical enemies of the Cuban people. This operation has even reached television stations that target the very people who have played a part in this act of solidarity.
We will begin with the example of TV Azteca, a Mexican television network. The media outlet, which in recent days has categorically stated that products donated by that country are being sold in Cuba, has been criticized by the Cuban ambassador to the South American nation, Eugenio Martínez. He stated that this report is based on a complete lack of evidence.
“Under no circumstances will the solidarity of the brotherly Mexican people and the grateful welcome of the Cuban people be tarnished by the slander of media outlets complicit in the crime that is the United States blockade,” the ambassador asserted.
On this matter, authorities from the Ministry of Domestic Trade also categorically denied the sale of this or any other donation, and reiterated that despite fuel limitations, the distribution will be completed as quickly as possible.
This disinformation campaign employs a combination of new and old tactics. The media war against Cuba has been waged for decades through traditional media conglomerates, joined by blogs, smaller media outlets supposedly “specialized in Cuba,” and now artificial intelligence is becoming another tool in this psychological warfare.

As in any battle, there are victims in this one too. We recall the children who were sent alone to the United States in the so-called Operation Peter Pan, an example of how disinformation and the instilling of fear led to the breakup of thousands of Cuban families, many of whom have never been reunited.
The tactic is clear: to cast doubt on everything the Cuban authorities say, to discredit them, and to attack the ethical, historical, and moral pillars that sustain the Cuban nation. To this end, the United States government allocates billions of dollars each year, a significant portion of which goes toward creating and fostering a media ecosystem that seeks to amplify every lie told about the Caribbean nation by U.S. administrations and magnify every mistake or shortcoming of the Cuban state.
The strategies are many: some resort to the most blatant fallacies, others take refuge in half-truths and distort reality. Returning to the recent example of TV Azteca, this network takes advantage of the sale of Mexican products in state-run stores. However, they do so ignoring a fact emphasized by the Cuban diplomat when denouncing the network's actions: in 2025 alone, food products worth tens of thousands of U.S. dollars were exported from Mexico to Cuba and sold by both public and private companies.
The truth is yet another victim in the U.S. government's comprehensive aggression against Cuba. Half-truths, lies, and slander have become daily allies of the American magnates and hawks who aspire to subjugate Cuba and its people.
Without in-depth analysis, one need only read the executive order issued by the magnate-turned-president of the United States on January 29, in which he labels Cuba an unusual threat to U.S. national security.
This lie, sustained only by the media power of the Empire, is laughable to most even minimally informed people, but it has justified the cruel and inhumane attempt to impose a fuel blockade, adding hardship to the daily lives of Cubans and leaving the door ajar for the vilest imperial delusions.
Cuba is not the only victim of lies; regrettable, sad, and detestable examples abound in recent times. Defending the truth is a colossal battle that all the peoples of the world must wage. It’s the only way to prevent the rise of immorality, shamelessness, and brazenness by fascist elites who have placed the world in grave danger.
