The United States government has again placed Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territories, on the Treasury Department's sanctions list, one week after having removed her, EFE confirmed Thursday.

The sanctions, which include freezing her U.S. bank accounts as well as barring her entry into the country, have been reactivated in the system of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

One week earlier, President Donald Trump's administration had removed the Italian lawyer's name from the list of Specially Designated Nationals (DSN).

On May 13, a federal court in Washington temporarily suspended these sanctions, including her entry ban, ruling that they were potentially an unconstitutional restriction that violated freedom of speech.

Albanese's family, based in the United States, had denounced the measures imposed by President Trump, arguing that the rapporteur had been restricted in her personal life, unable to access her home in Washington, where her daughter, a U.S. citizen, resides.

The Trump administration imposed sanctions on Albanese in July 2025 under the program of measures linked to the International Criminal Court (ICC), after the rapporteur criticized the Israeli offensive in Gaza and called for investigations into possible war crimes committed by Israeli and U.S. authorities.

Washington at the time accused the UN expert of promoting actions against U.S. allies and officials before international courts.
