The United States bombed military targets on the Iranian island of Larak, located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, on Sunday (08.30.2026), leaving “dead and wounded,” the Revolutionary Guards stated in a release while warning of “retaliation” in response to this “terrorist aggression.”
“Early in the day, U.S. forces attacked two Iranian launchers on Larak Island,” where “Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps personnel had been observed preparing to launch naval mine rockets,” said Tim Hawkins, spokesman for Central Command (CENTCOM), in a press statement.
In a report, CENTCOM indicated that it was a “precision strike” because the laying of mines by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) posed “an imminent threat” in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the United States, these attacks using two drones—the first against Iran since late July—destroyed two Iranian platforms on the island that were set to be used for attacks in Hormuz.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated last Tuesday that CENTCOM had completed mine-clearing operations along international shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.
He added that Iran had been warned that any vessel placing new explosive devices in this maritime passage, through which a significant portion of globally exported hydrocarbons flows, would be “destroyed immediately and systematically.”
Iranian agencies Fars and Tasnim reported the strikes against Larak Island, situated along the northern strip of the strait.
A spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guard affirmed in turn that the bombings caused “dead and wounded” and warned that this “terrorist aggression” will be “punished.”
These strikes come after weeks during which hostilities had lessened in intensity.
The Trump administration had prioritized “economic warfare” over bombings against Iran. However, sporadic exchanges of fire occurred across the region, particularly in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
This strategic maritime passage, through which a fifth of the world's hydrocarbons passed before the war, remains blocked by Tehran, which sporadically attacks ships attempting to traverse it.
The United States has responded by maintaining a blockade of Iranian ports.
“U.S. forces closely monitor the area and remain prepared to protect the free flow of commercial trade through this essential waterway,” Hawkins noted.
The war broke out on February 28 with joint strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, which retaliated by targeting Washington's Gulf allies in particular.
A ceasefire in April ended nearly 40 days of heavy bombing, and a protocol agreement aimed at permanently ending the conflict was reached in June, though it did not bring a complete halt to hostilities.
