Rejection of U.S. Blockade Against Cuba Finds Echo in Bogotá
The rejection of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba was heard today in the march that members of progressive movements in Colombia staged in Bogotá.
The island's flags waved in the hands of those who recognize how the U.S. siege causes serious harm to the population, during the walk held along Carrera Séptima to the central Plaza de Bolívar.
Sonia López, of the Congress of Peoples Movement, took part in the march with the symbol of the largest of the Antilles attached to her backpack.
She told Prensa Latina that she "energetically rejects the criminal blockade of imperialism against Cuba," while expressing her support for the Cuban people's project, their self-determination and their right to defend their autonomy.
"We have been brother peoples. As the Colombian people we have much to thank Cuba for because it has historically been a bastion of solidarity, dignity and resistance against imperialism," she revealed.
Francisco Contreras, another of those attending the mobilization, commented that the aim of the march was also to show solidarity with other nations and that Cuba is a people that has been attacked.
He stressed that an "illegitimate, illegal and inhumane blockade" weighs on the island.
He also deplored that the Caribbean nation is not allowed to trade freely with other countries and that companies with which it negotiates are threatened with sanctions. Down with the blockade! he expressed by way of conclusion.
Colombia experienced today a day of mobilizations in several cities across the country, attended by hundreds of thousands of people in cities such as Bucaramanga, Cali, Neiva, Pereira, Pasto, Santa Marta and Tunja, among others.
