Musk Urges Zelensky to Leave Power in Ukraine
Elon Musk
Tech billionaire Elon Musk asked on Wednesday that Volodymyr Zelensky "step down" from Ukraine's presidency, at a time when Kyiv is questioning U.S. support for the war-devastated country.
Ukraine accused the United States this week of helping Russia by not warning it of imminent missile attacks and by hindering Kyiv's military response through changes to the satellite system of Musk's company that it uses for communications.
"And so the massacre continues," Musk wrote on X. "It's time for Zelensky to leave."
Zelensky had asked Musk to restore Starlink, designed by the magnate's company SpaceX and which, Kyiv claims, was slowed down and has had an impact on its operations on the front, senior Ukrainian officials indicated.
Musk said any interruption is the responsibility of the U.S. government.
He drew a distinction between Starshield, on which Ukraine depends for battlefield communications and which, he said, is controlled by the U.S. government, and the civilian Starlink satellite system, which Ukraine also uses but is not allowed to employ for offensive operations.
The dispute arises after Zelensky answered affirmatively when asked whether he felt "betrayed" after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a diesel supply deal with Moscow.
A senior official in Kyiv also stated that the United States had threatened in recent days to stop providing intelligence on Russian missile launches that Ukraine uses to thwart attacks, something Trump has denied.
Trump, who faces key midterm legislative elections next month, has attributed the rise in gas station prices to Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries.
