Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the arrival of a second shipment of humanitarian aid to Cuba and reaffirmed that aid deliveries will continue to the Caribbean nation.
“Indeed, humanitarian aid has arrived, and we will continue sending aid to Cuba,” the head of state stated during her regular press conference.
On Saturday, the vessels Papaloapan and Huasteco, belonging to the Mexican Navy, docked at the port of Havana carrying a total of 1,193 tons of supplies. This delivery occurs in the context of the long-standing U.S. economic blockade against Cuba, in place for more than six decades.
The ships had departed from the port of Veracruz on February 24, transporting essential food items such as beans and powdered milk.
According to Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 23 tons of the cargo were provided by various social organizations with support from the Mexico City government at a collection center in the historic downtown area, constituting a first delivery of this batch.
This shipment represents Mexico’s second aid delivery to the island, following the arrival on February 12 of 814 tons of food and hygiene products.
