Investigation Into Foiled Terrorist Infiltration Attempt Advances; U.S. Authorities Express Willingness to Cooperate

Avanza investigación sobre frustrado intento de infiltración terrorista
Cuban authorities are advancing forensic and investigative procedures in full compliance with applicable national law, aimed at achieving the complete clarification of the facts surrounding a foiled terrorist infiltration attempt, as well as establishing the individual culpability of each of those involved.
Statements provided by the detainees themselves have joined a broader set of investigative findings that reinforce the evidence against them. In parallel, new elements have emerged pointing to the involvement of additional individuals currently residing in the United States.
From the outset, Cuban authorities have maintained timely communication with their U.S. counterparts. On March 2, 2026, United States authorities conveyed through diplomatic channels their "willingness to cooperate fully" in the investigation. Such cooperation may include the exchange of information and evidence, as well as other joint measures.
Given the gravity of the events and the threat that terrorism poses not only to Cuba but to the international community at large, national authorities — consistent with their longstanding position on this matter — regard reciprocal cooperation in confronting this dangerous global threat as an obligation.
The detained individuals who sustained injuries continue to receive specialized medical attention commensurate with the severity of each case. Roberto Álvarez Ávila, one of the detainees, died on March 4 as a result of wounds received during the incident. The public will be kept informed as the investigative process unfolds.
