The Fernando Alonso National Ballet School of Cuba officially issued a call today for the 2026 Havana Grand Prix, an international competition set to take place in the capital from July 13 to 19.

According to the institution's director, Dani Hernández, the contest aims to bring together talent from across the globe to promote artistic excellence, cultural exchange, and the development of new generations of dancers.

The event stands as a successor to the competitive gatherings held in Cuba over several decades under the guidance of Alicia Alonso, Fernando Alonso, and Ramona de Sáa, among other essential masters of the Cuban Ballet School, with the objective of continuing to cultivate talent through a global lens.

According to the official announcement, dancers of all nationalities between the ages of 9 and 20 may register for the event until June 7.

The competition categories include: Beginners, Small, Children’s, Youth, and Advanced. The required repertoire spans two modalities: Variations and Pas de deux from traditional classical works specified in the event guidelines, as well as the performance of a contemporary piece of the participant's choice.

Full details of the gathering can be found on the social media platforms of the Fernando Alonso National Ballet School, which has promised to soon reveal the members of the international jury and further information regarding prizes. These awards are expected to include scholarships, internships, and intensive courses in various countries.
