Far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella, from the Defensores de la Patria movement, and leftist Iván Cepeda, from the Historic Pact, will face each other in a second round for the presidency of Colombia on June 21 after emerging as the top two vote-getters in the first round held this Sunday.

With 98.7% of votes counted, De la Espriella surprised by obtaining 43.73% (10,236,946 votes) and Cepeda 40.91% (9,577,812 votes).

These figures make them unreachable for the remaining candidates. However, neither obtained more than half of the valid votes, so they must go to a second round.

Another relevant piece of data from this election is the collapse of the Uribista faction led by Paloma Valencia. The right-wing candidate obtained only 6.92%, a figure below expectations.
