The International Canoe Federation (ICF) presented this Monday a digital control panel for sprint canoeing Olympic qualification heading toward Los Angeles 2028, featuring real-time updates on results and continental quotas.

The system was announced at the ICF headquarters and will be available to national federations and national Olympic committees. The launch coincides with the first World Cup of the season, scheduled to take place in Szeged, Hungary, from May 8 to 10, featuring Cuban athletes Yarisleidis Cirilo and Yinnolis Franchesca López.

The tool allows for the live tracking of each nation’s progress throughout the qualification process. The format includes ten independent rankings, one for each event on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program. Points are awarded to National Olympic Committees and are accumulated during world championships, continental tournaments, and global events.

Each nation may count up to eight results per ranking, stemming from eight different competitions. To ensure geographic diversity, “no more than six results may originate from the same continent.”

The dashboard offers immediate access to assigned slots, official rankings, and universality places. China currently leads all ten events following the Asian Championships, held in Hefei from April 4 to 26, which served as the first valid event for qualification. Uzbekistan holds second place in several events, while South Korea, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam have also secured initial points.

The ICF confirmed that the panel will be updated automatically following each official competition. The process will extend until 2028, with a total of 236 slots available for canoe sprint (118 per gender), including four reserved for the host country, and 82 slots (41 per gender) for canoe slalom.
