Petro Urges Latin America to "Emancipate" Itself from the US
especiales

The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, this Sunday urged Latin America to free itself from the control exerted by the United States over the sovereignty of the region's peoples.
His message on the social network X adds to a regional debate on foreign interference and principles of self-determination following the most recent aggression perpetrated by the US Armed Forces against Venezuela and the subsequent kidnapping of that country's president, Nicolás Maduro.
"Latin America must emancipate itself again," wrote the Colombian leader, making an explicit call for political independence from foreign powers.
This declaration came in response to an analysis published by Colombian academic and international law expert Rodrigo Uprimny. The jurist denounced the US military intervention in the Bolivarian Republic, arguing that it violated fundamental norms of international law. Uprimny emphasized that Washington does not have the role of "judge" or "police" within the region.
During a press conference this Saturday, US President Donald Trump directed a warning at Petro, accusing him of manufacturing cocaine and sending it to his country. "He better watch his ass," Trump declared.
