The royal decree will take effect at midnight and will remove Princess Cristina’s right to use the title of Duchess of Palma.

The text of the decree, signed by Felipe VI and the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, reads: “Royal Decree 470/2015, of June 11, by which the faculty of using the title of Duchess of Palma de Mallorca is revoked from Her Royal Highness Infanta Doña Cristina”.

“According to the mandate of article 6 of Royal Decree 1368/1987, of November 6, regarding the Royal Family & Regents’ titles, treatments and honours regime, I have resolved to revoke the attribution to Her Royal Highness Infanta Doña Cristina of the faculty of using the title of Duchess of Palma de Mallorca, which was bestowed upon her by Royal Decree 1502/1992, of September 26″.

She will now be known as Her Royal Highness the Infanta (Princess) Doña Cristina.

In December, a judge ruled that Princess Cristina could be tried on two counts of being an accomplice to tax fraud, the first member of the Spanish Royal Family to be tried in open court.

She could face up to 6.5 years in prison and was ordered to pay €2.7 million bail.
