The Cuban delegation in the Caribbean Series 2016 issued on Monday a press release denouncing irregularities to train due to the harassment of people linked to the athletes’ drainage at the hotel they are staying.

We must travel more than 60 km, 30 km more than expected, in order to train in an alternative stadium. Of course, the training session did not started as scheduled, said Roberto Ramirez, press responsible of the Cuban delegation.

Ciego de Avila Tigers, Cuban representative at this 58th edition of the Caribbean Series, was scheduled to train in the fields of the MLB organization Arizona Diamondbacks. However, once in the bus, they were told not to use it mandated by MLB’s director of Latin American Operations.

We returned to the hotel and when we talked to the authorities of the event they regretted what had happened. They told us the Office did not want to privilege Arizona’s scouts.

The beat writers accompanying the Cuban team traveled to Boca Chica where the facility administrators had the stadium ready to welcome the Tigers.

The Cuban team is the only team without access to U.S. sports facilities.

The Cuban representatives considered the arguments unacceptable because “they show a discriminatory treatment, divorced from the event purpose”.

Likewise, they urged the Organizing Committee of the tournament to take actions against the harassment suffered by Cuban baseball players. They should worry about those people linked to the athletes’ drainage, who has insisted on carrying out their work even at the hotel, noted Ramirez.
