Cuba keeps winning streak in Centrobasket

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 23 (acn) Cuba headed Group A, thus advancing to semifinals of the 2018 Centrobasket Women's Championship hosted in Manati, Puerto Rico, where they also qualified to the 2019 FIBA AmeriCup.

According to statistics on the official website of the contest, this time Cubans beat 99-39 (20-12, 28-14, 29-6 and 22-7) Guatemala and extended their winning streak in these events to 54 since the 1993 edition held in the same venue.

Suchitel Avila was Cuba´s scoring leader with 18 points and was followed by Anisleidy Galindo (16), Leidys Oquendo and Leanyi Becquer (11 each) and Yamara Amargo and Marlen Cepeda (10 each), while Linda Gonzalez (14) highlighted for the losing side.

Today, in the semifinals, Cuba will face Mexico while the local team will clash against the Dominican Republic.

These four squads already got their berths to the 2019 FIBA AmeriCup, which in turn will be the qualifying tournament for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
