AU Supports Democratic Republic of Congo in Fight against Ebola

The African Union (AU) is continuing to support efforts to control and eradicate Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by sending highly qualified personnel, health sources announced today.
These professionals include infection prevention specialists, epidemiologists, anthropologists, communication experts, physicians and laboratory scientists, an AU statement explained.
Measures and precautions are taken to reduce the risk of transmission in hospitals between caregiver-patient, patient-patient, the text added.
These provisions cover, among others, adequate hand hygiene, the use and disposal of personal protective equipment, the preparation of decontamination solutions (sanitary structures and at homes).
They also include the decontamination of facilities, waste management; dignified and safe burials; and the treatment of reusable materials.
