Xi Jinping hails Droupadi Murmu as India’s new president

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday congratulated Droupadi Murmu, who assumed the presidency of India, and assured her of his desire to work together to improve political trust between the two countries.
In his message, the Chinese dignitary pointed out that both States are important neighbors and maintaining a healthy and stable relationship that benefits their fundamental interests and the peace, stability and development of the region and the world.
He noted that China grants high esteem to the ties with India and he is ready to join forces with Murmu to lead them on the right path, deepen practical cooperation and properly manage differences.
Droupadi Murmu, 64, made history on July 21, when she defeated the opposition candidate, former Finance Minister and former Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha, and became India’s first female president of tribal origin.
