Paris, Aug 19 (Prensa Latina) UNESCO's Director General Audrey Azoulay condemned on Wednesday the murder in Colombia of a community radio journalist Abelardo Liz and called for justice.

In a statement, she urged Colombia's authorities to investigate the crime committed on August 13 in the city of Corinto, in the department of Cauca, and to bring those responsible to trial.

Impunity for this crime should not restrict freedom of expression and weaken journalists' confidence in carrying out their work safely, she warned.

Liz worked for the Nacion Nasa radio station, a community radio station of the Voz del Viento collective, and he died while being taken to the hospital for he was shot during covering a protest about lands' rights.

Regarding the new murder of a press professional, UNESCO reiterated its commitment to the sector and recalled that it promotes global awareness campaigns and training programs related to the safety of journalists.
