The situation in northern Gaza, particularly around Jabalya, Beit Lahiya, and Beit Hanoun, remains dire. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has cautioned that the Israeli occupation’s attacks, coupled with imposed restrictions and forced displacement, could jeopardize the existence of the Palestinian people in the region.

In a statement issued today, the OHCHR described the attacks carried out by Israel in northern Gaza as horrific. “These attacks have made it extremely dangerous for civilians to flee, and the UN Human Rights Office has received reports over the last weeks of Palestinians targeted while fleeing. Many Palestinians in the north have also expressed fears that should they flee, they will never be allowed to return to their homes in north Gaza,” the statement read.

For two weeks, since October 6, the Israeli military has implemented measures that render life in northern Gaza untenable for Palestinians, repeatedly ordering the displacement of the entire governorate. Additionally, they have banned the entry of essential supplies, including water, food, and medical aid.

The OHCHR noted that Israeli forces continue to relentlessly bombard the area and launch brutal attacks on locations such as Jabalia, Beit Lahiya, and Beit Hanoun.

It is important to recall that since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have sustained their assault on the Gaza Strip by land, sea, and air, resulting in the deaths of 42,603 civilians and injuries to 99,795 others, predominantly women and children.
