UN chief urges to regulate AI technology

The UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres on Tuesday urged to take pressing actions to regulate AI technology and called for its global governance.
Guterres warned that AI has “enormous potential for good and for evil on a large scale” and urged an early assessment of its implications in such important areas as the three pillars of the organization: development, human rights, and peace and security.
“AI creators have warned that much greater, potentially catastrophic and existential dangers lie ahead,” he said, alluding to the autonomy of some AI-operated tools or weapons.
“If we do not act to address these risks, we are forgetting our responsibilities to present and future generations,” Guterres stressed.
