The Rubén Martínez Villena Hall at the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) opens on Monday the theoretical event of the 20th Havana Theater Festival, starting with a tribute to late actor and director Sergio Corrieri.

The event will last until November 17 and pays tribute to Corrieri this Monday through a panel discussion, a book launch, and a documentary screening, according to UNEAC’s social media.

Such activity is part of the 20th edition of the Havana International Theater Festival, which runs in Cuba until November 19 after two years of pandemic.

Corrieri’s recognition in the context of the event is due to the importance of his legacy for Cuban theater, cinema, television, and culture, Lillitsy Hernández, president of the National Council of the Performing Arts, organizer of the festival, said at a press briefing.

Hernández added that this tribute is dedicated to Corrieri (1938-2008) on his 85th birthday and the Teatro Escambray Group, whose legacies have revolutionized the dramatic art in Cuba from the community.

Seven companies from France, Colombia, Spain, Costa Rica, and Argentina are participating in the 20th edition of the Havana International Theater Festival, in addition to 15 proposals from six Cuban provinces, with an estimated 29 plays and 91 performances.
