Cuban Science Day is celebrated today in Cuba, where innovation in 2023 will be the core axis of the strategy for scientific development.

In the province of Sancti Spíritus, located 355 kilometers from the capital, the main event for the anniversary was held yesterday. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) chose the territory for the huge results achieved in this strategic sector.

Previously, at a press conference, Elba Rosa Pérez, head of Citma, highlighted that the use of the most diverse and deep knowledge will be key to solving the problems the country has.

In innovation – besides other sectors - food production, demography, industry and energy will be a priority, especially renewable energy, since the nation, seeks to change its energy matrix by 2030.

It’s scheduled to re-assess rurality as a scientific activity, promote the circular economy and ensure the Tarea Vida, a four-stage environmental protection plan until 2030 and which is now undergoing its second stage.

Tarea Vida is of great importance for Cuba, an island country, which suffers the consequences of climate change, hence attention must be paid to this issue along with pollution and biodiversity.

Elba Rosa Pérez also said  that  it’s essential to do more science aimed at the implementation of public policies and decision-making. Therefore, the space of social and humanistic sciences must be broadened.

Year 2023 will be an appropriate year to increase publications, patents, and investments in the scientific field, considered the Caribbean minister, who urged to strengthen the socialist state company and other forms of production.
