Russian fighters intercept US spy plane over Black Sea

Moscow, June 29 (Prensa Latina) Russian SU-27 fighter jets have intercepted a US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft and a US Air Force RC-135 reconnaissance plane over the neutral waters of the Black Sea, the local television reported.

According to the headquarters of the Southeast Military District, its anti-aircraft defense system detected the US aircrafts that were escorted over neutral waters of the Black Sea, in order to prevent their access to the Russian limits.

As on previous occasions, the Ministry of Defense clarified that the Russian fighter jets escorted the two US reconnaissance planes in accordance with the international norms established for these cases, without violating the border of another nation.

On 19 June, Russian SU-30 and SU-35 fighters, as well as MIG-31 interceptors, escorted two US B-52H bombers over the Okhotsk Sea.

The Russian anti-aircraft defense of the Eastern Military District was activated to monitor the US bombers.

Also, on June 15, SU-27 fighters escorted another US B-52H bomber over neutral waters of the Baltic Sea and near the Russian western enclave of Kaliningrad.
