The Cuban church is growing and participates in the social project that is being built in the country, Reverend Joel Ortega, president of the Council of Churches of Cuba (CIC), said on Wednesday.

In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, Ortega ratified that all religious organizations in Cuba enjoy full freedom for the practice of their faith, their liturgical and worship elements, as well as for their participation in society.

The reverend considered that only those who do not know the reality of the church and religions in Cuba could point to an alleged limitation for the full exercise of religious rights that are enshrined in national laws.

Anyone who knows this country, has walked through its neighborhoods and talked to its inhabitants can attest to the variety and diversity of Christianity: from Orthodox churches, Pentecostal churches, historic Reformed churches such as the Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, Episcopalians, Vincentians, Salvation Army, he said.

He remarked that there is a whole plethora of religious denominations living their faith in Cuba. The Cuban church is growing in membership, leadership, and infrastructure, and has an impact on Cuban society and on the international sphere.
