The Museum of Modern Art of Paris (MAM) will enrich its collection with 61 works by the “master of color,” Henri Matisse (1869–1954), thanks to a family donation, the press reported today.

According to the Franceinfo network, the group of works by the renowned French artist includes, among others, seven paintings, 28 drawings, one sculpture, and six lithographs.

The donation will be made by Barbara Dauphin Duthuit, the wife of the painter’s grandson, Claude Duthuit.

The pieces had been loaned to the MAM for the exhibition “Matisse and Marguerite, Through a Father’s Eyes,” which attracted thousands of visitors from April 4 to August 25 of this year at the museum located along the banks of the Seine River.

The exhibition was dedicated to the artist’s most loyal model, his daughter Marguerite.

MAM Director Fabrice Hegott described the gesture as extremely generous and acknowledged the commitment of Barbara Dauphin Duthuit to the museum, which he called “Marguerite’s home for decades and centuries to come.”
