A group of 74 irregular Cuban migrants were returned to the island from Mexico, for a total of 1,005 people returned for these reasons in the course of 2022.

There are 22 operations of this type carried out this year, by air and sea, in which 581 people arrived from Mexico, 43 from the Bahamas, and 381 were intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The 46 men and 28 women who returned to the territory on Wednesday did so through Havana's José Martí International Airport, all of them left the island legally to third countries and were detained by Mexican authorities in their attempt to enter the United States in an irregular manner.

Upon their return, they were transferred to their places of residence after undergoing a PCR test for the detection of COVID-19 and were given food and medical attention.

Cuban migration authorities insist on pointing out the dangers involved in these movements in which people travel in life-threatening conditions and are exposed to scenarios of violence, extortion, inclement weather, and other mishaps.
